Topic: Security Central / Covering Obs Cell camera's

I tell them to remove the object covering the camera or I will remove all their property and leave them in their underwear. They usually take the object down .

Topic: Security Central / Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) training? Any policies?

We use Sabre Red (the blue can). It has awesome stopping power. A CO sprayed an inmate who was fighting and OC usually has no effect on him. This guy stopped, went back to his cell and sat on his bunk. He said that was the “bow down bitch spray”. Even if they aren’t affected right away, give it a few minutes. It’ll kick in.

We recently had to change our OC policy due to a spray happy rookie hosing an 80 year old crazy female inmate. Oh and she weighed around 80 pounds. And of course the entire Bureau had to go through remedial training because of one idiot.

Topic: Security Central / Tasers in the Jail?

We have a taser in the armory and only a Corporal or above can use it. They work excellent for cell extractions. We had one guy in AdSeg that got zapped and screamed like a girl. The other inmates asked him how it was; he said, “it fucking sucks!”.

Tasers are a very useful tool to add to our resources. I would personally like to carry one on me, but I’d probably get fired for excessive tasing 

Topic: Security Central / Do most municipal jails strip search inmates?

The Sheriff’s Office I work for got sued for strip searching an inmate who was booked in and going to housing. We can’t even strip search inmates that come in from DOC. Those inmates are the ones who bring in the smokes. Now if we strip search an inmate we have to fill out strip search log in the computer and indicate what the probable cause for the search was.

Topic: Juvenile Jam / gang assessment

I work in a county jail. We have a whole 10 juveniles. 90% of them are being held on gang related charges; robbery, murder, attempted murder, auto/home burglary, home invasion. We try to identify the gang members when they get booked, but usually we find out when they start tagging the walls and drawing gang graffiti on their papers. Then we sic our gang detective on ’em and try and get their charges gang enhanced.
