Topic: Health & Wellness / Approaching and managing offenders with mental disorders Without going on a rant (and that ain’t easy sometimes) Ohio gives instruction on dealing with inmates who have mental disorders both in the Academy and during yearly in-service training. Not a lot, but some. There are always a few who “fall between the cracks”, but at my institution we are blessed with very efficient Mental Health and Medical staff who work hard and follow up to ensure the inmates who need their meds receive them. I sympathize with kachelbers and his friend for losing someone in a situation that’s so obviously unexplainable. |

Topic: Health & Wellness / Mandated CPR On Inmates: Good Or Not So Good? Ohio DRC has recently mandated that CO’s learn CPR. They are also mandating CO’s perform CPR on inmates if the situation warrants. Is this good or not? Several CO’s where I work say they will NOT perform CPR on an inmate, regardless of the consequences. Other states already have a CPR mandate in place and have accepted it as a job requirement, but it seems that it’s always difficult to get the rank and file to accept ANYTHING new. Anyone have any thoughts on this? |
