12 hour shifts – it must be hard to stay with a clear mind for all this time. How long are the pauses between the leave and come to work?

With us our week starts on a Saturday. So the Week goes like this. On: Sat,Sun. Off: Mon,Tue. On:Wed,Thur. Off: Fri,Sat Sun. Thus flipping each week.
As for Management v Union it suited both sides. Granted longer working days but more time off as well.

Thanks Mick. Are you union? If so, how did the transition go between the union and management?
The preliminary setup is on week four days work, the following week three days work.

With us 12 hour shifts are the norm. It works out well. We do an alternate 3 day/4 day week. And then if you want over time it’s there.

I’m here in Washington state DOC and we are going to a pilot program for 12 hour shifts. If there’s any agencies that currently have 10 to 12 hours shifts let me know how it’s working out.
This is only going to be at 1 facility for now but, if it works out OK, maybe it will go state wide.
