FAIRFIELD — A trio of men, each of whom faces unrelated murder charges, were in court briefly Monday afternoon.

Raul Gutierrez-Ayar, 20, Jason D. Castillo, 30, and Jose L. Ramirez Jr., 20, did not enter pleas to new felony charges of assault and conspiracy. All three agreed to come back to court Oct. 1 when they will likely enter pleas to the charges.

The three men were all locked up in the main jail Sept. 14 when they allegedly attacked another inmate, punching him, choking him and seriously injuring him. Court records reflect Castillo had Gutierrez-Ayar and Ramirez hide in his cell to wait for the victim and that Castillo served as their lookout during the attack.
