Authorities investigate inmate death in North Carolina jail

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities are looking into the fourth inmate death at a North Carolina county jail in 2018.

News outlets report the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office said 52-year-old Jerome Thompson jumped from a general housing pod Wednesday night and suffered a fractured skull. Thompson underwent surgery but died Thursday morning.

Jail records show Thompson was arrested Wednesday on attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon charges.
