Inmates accused of smuggling contraband |

Authorities accuse a Whitakers women of recently trying to smuggle drugs as an entering inmate into the Edgecombe County Detention Center. Tiffany Michelle Cole, 40, was sentenced to serve 24 months of incarceration for larceny, forgery and probation violations. While being processed into the jail on Anaconda Road in Tarboro earlier this week, intake officers located tobacco products and prescription pills including Zolpidem, said Lt. Kevin West of the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division. Zolpidem is a strong sleep aid better known by the brand name Ambien. “These items were concealed in such a way as to attempt to conceal them from a search by detention officers and take them with her into the cell,” West said.
